Kid Guitar

Ages: 7-11
This beginning class is geared for fun on the guitar. Taught by Dave Royal who has more than a decade of teaching younger kids how much fun music can be. Students learn 3-6 easy playing chords and play along with the instructor while learning about melody and rhythm. Rental (or rent to own) 3/4-size guitars are available.

After School Teen Rock Bands

Ages: Teen
Students learn to play together as a group the roles that all of the respective instruments play in a band setting. Guitar, Bass, Drums and Piano are encouraged and explored in these classes so that kids can learn to understand how a band functions. Each group works toward building a repertoire of recordable/performance songs and are encouraged to eventually take the band in their own hands.

Beginning Guitar

Ages: Adult
Having FUN playing and learning is the key to these classes. Currently held at the Mathis Center (at the Escondido Public Library) this is a six-week course that introduces students to playing chords and learning the fun of improvising.

Ages: Teen
Recently graduated Ubiquitous music teacher Andrew Saliba teaches his peers how to just play the guitar in a fun no-pressure environment. Learn the chords to play your favorite songs and the ways to make up your own solos and songs.

Adult Rock & Jazz Bands

The Monday Madmen and The Wednesday Warriors
Ages: Adult
This adult class meets once a week for one hour. Students play blues and classic rock songs, Improvisation concepts are studied and practiced. Students take turns playing bass, guitar and drums if you like. The time is mostly spent playing as the group strives to develop a performance repertoire.

Jazz Ensemble
Ages: Teen and Adult
Students with a familiarity to improvisation with blues and rock using pentatonic scales will find this class challenging as it takes them into the world of jazz. Using the UBIQ curriculum books: C-1 and C-2, students learn a variety of chord voicings and improvisational techniques over many standard jazz songs.
Classes fluctuate with seasonal scheduling.

Adult Blues Band

Ages: Adult
Blues is the backbone of virtually all American popular music. A working knowledge of the blues will increase a player’s proficiency in rock, jazz or country. Learn blues rhythm guitar, bass, and the ins and outs of lead guitar and improvisation. Well-known blues songs will be studied as well as popular licks from a variety of blues styles.

Home School Band Program

The home school band program is directed by Gene Button at The California Center for the Arts, Studio #3, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido CA 92025. Button is highly proficient on all the instruments, including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and snare drum. He has taught for over 35 years in public schools as well as privately. While in Illinois his bands received many first division ratings at both the district and state levels.

Guitar Orchestra
Ages: Teen and Adult
This ensemble will teach people the joy of sight-reading music and rehearsing it “from the page to the stage”. Students will learn to read music notation on guitar and will perform compositions from J. S. Bach to classical guitar arrangements of rock n’ roll songs in four-part harmony, working toward a performance of rehearsed repertoire in classic concert style.
